State Street Investment Management (SSIM)—formerly State Street Global Advisors (SSGA)—seeks an accomplished senior leader to serve as Global Head of Core Data Product Management. This Managing Director position is accountable for shaping and executing the core data product strategy that enables Investment Management’s enterprise transformation.
Reporting to and operating as a strategic partner to the Global Head of Data, Analytics, and AI Services (DAAIS), this role leads global core data product management, including the modernization of legacy, siloed data environments into a unified, cloud-first data platform. The incumbent will direct teams responsible for stakeholder engagement, requirements definition, workflow and process optimization, product feature design and specification, lifecycle execution, and agile delivery of data products as services.
This is a global leadership role requiring deep expertise across enterprise data domains (front, middle, and back office), including data supporting Products, Sales, Marketing, and Finance. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of delivering modern data services on cloud-based platforms, partnering effectively with third-party data providers, and leading within the asset management industry.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
- Advance SSIM’s data vision and strategy by leading the end-to-end data product lifecycle, including product discovery, business analysis, requirements definition, functional specification, delivery oversight, service-level commitments, and market/competitive assessment.
- Lead, coach, and develop high-performing global product teams, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and deep domain expertise.
- Define the enterprise Data Blueprint (current state to target state), establish core data product architecture and standards, and provide governance and direction for implementation across SSIM.
Product Excellence
- Roadmap: Define and deliver a multi-year global roadmap for core data products aligned to the target-state Data Blueprint.
- Execution: Establish and maintain a Single Source of Truth (SSOT), leveraging separation of compute and storage to support scalability, interoperability, and cost efficiency.
- Commercial and operational value: Standardize and rationalize the data footprint to increase operating leverage and reduce total cost of ownership.
- AI readiness: Ensure data products are designed end-to-end to enable scalable AI and machine learning capabilities.
- Collaboration and mentorship: Build a global community of practice focused on continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
- Governance integration: Partner with Data Governance to embed data quality, risk management, and control frameworks into the product lifecycle.
Execution and Oversight
- Direct global data product delivery with an emphasis on innovation, predictable execution, service reliability, and measurable business outcomes.
- Manage strategic vendor relationships (data providers and service partners), ensuring effective integration, service performance, risk management, and contract outcomes.
- Oversee deployment and adoption of core data services, including operating model, support processes, and stakeholder readiness.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 20 years of experience in financial services with significant focus on data technology and/or data product management, including at least 15 years in senior leadership roles leading large-scale data transformation or platform modernization initiatives.
- Strategic thinking: Demonstrated ability to translate complex business needs into structured, actionable data product strategies and roadmaps.
- Domain expertise: Strong knowledge of global multi-asset classes (e.g., equities, fixed income, derivatives, and digital products) and enterprise functions, including Sales, Marketing, and Finance data.
- Leadership: Proven success leading global, cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment to deliver complex, multi-year transformation programs.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and present effectively to diverse audiences.
- Technical literacy: Working knowledge of cloud-native data ecosystems, API-first delivery patterns, and AI-enabled analytics.
- Influence and stakeholder management: Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations, break down silos, and drive alignment across senior stakeholders.
- Vendor landscape: Strong understanding of the data vendor ecosystem, including experience evaluating and adopting vendor products and open-source frameworks to improve scale and growth.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience) strongly preferred.
- Additional requirements: Fluency in English; highly detail-oriented, results-driven, and execution-focused.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience in institutional asset management and/or wealth management.
- Prior leadership experience in data product management within a large financial institution.
- CFA Level I (or equivalent credential).
Salary Range:
$170,000 - $282,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
