System Integration Engineer, Vice President
Legal Technology Integrations
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a System Integration Engineer to design, build, and operate integrations across the legal application landscape, with a primary focus on the contracting ecosystem and its data supply chain. This role will connect contract management SaaS platforms, master data management (MDM) services, the legal data lake, and other enterprise applications to ensure data moves reliably, securely, and in a well-governed manner.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on integration engineering capability—API design and consumption, event and batch integration patterns, data mapping and transformation, and operational excellence—paired with an ability to work across Legal, Technology, Security, and enterprise platform teams to deliver stable, supportable integrations.
Why This Role Is Important to Us
Legal platforms are only as effective as the data and workflows that connect them. Contracting processes rely on seamless integrations to enable:
- End-to-end contracting workflows across intake, negotiation, approvals, signature, and repository storage
- Trusted master data (counterparties, vendors, hierarchies, reference data) flowing consistently across systems
- High-quality contract data landing in the data lake for reporting, obligations tracking, analytics, and downstream automation
- Security, auditability, and compliance through consistent identity/access patterns, logging, and retention-aligned handling
This role ensures the integration layer is resilient, observable, scalable, and aligned to enterprise standards—reducing manual effort, preventing data quality issues, and improving the reliability of legal operations.
What You Will Be Responsible For
A) Integration Engineering & Delivery
- Design, build, and maintain integrations between legal SaaS systems (contracting platforms, document repositories) and enterprise services (MDM, identity, data lake, workflow, reporting, and other business systems).
- Implement integration patterns across API-based, event-driven, and batch/file-based approaches based on use case needs and constraints.
- Develop and manage interfaces including API endpoints/clients, message/event handlers, ETL/ELT jobs, and scheduled data syncs.
- Create robust data transformations and mappings (schemas, field-level mapping, reference data normalization) to support consistent downstream consumption.
B) Data Movement into the Legal Data Lake
- Build and operate reliable pipelines that ingest contract documents, metadata, and extracted fields into the data lake.
- Partner with data engineering and governance teams to ensure:
- Clear source-to-target mapping and lineage
- Data quality checks and reconciliation (completeness, duplication, referential integrity)
- Appropriate handling of sensitive data and retention-aligned storage patterns
- Enable secure consumption patterns for analytics, dashboards, APIs, and approved automation use cases.
C) MDM & Reference Data Alignment
- Integrate legal systems with MDM and reference data services to ensure consistent master entities (e.g., counterparties, vendors, hierarchies, locations, identifiers).
- Implement validation and enrichment patterns (e.g., match/merge logic, golden record alignment, reference data lookups).
- Establish routines for resolving data discrepancies and preventing drift across systems.
D) Integration Architecture Standards & Reusability
- Define and implement integration standards for the legal contracting domain:
- Canonical data models (where appropriate)
- Naming conventions, versioning, and backward compatibility approaches
- Error handling patterns and idempotency
- Secure secrets management and key rotation expectations
- Build reusable integration components to reduce duplication and accelerate delivery.
E) Security, Access, and Compliance by Design
- Ensure integrations adhere to security and compliance requirements, including:
- Authentication/authorization patterns (SSO/OAuth/SAML as applicable), least privilege, and segregation of duties
- Encryption in transit and at rest, secure credential storage, and audit logging
- Data classification handling, retention-aligned processing, and privacy-by-design controls
- Support audits and control evidence through documented flows, runbooks, and traceable logs.
F) Operational Excellence (Reliability, Monitoring, Support)
- Own day-2 operations for integrations: monitoring, alerting, incident triage, root cause analysis, and permanent fixes.
- Implement observability best practices: structured logs, metrics, tracing, and integration health dashboards.
- Establish SLAs/SLOs, on-call/support procedures (as applicable), and release readiness practices for integration changes.
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce failures, latency, manual interventions, and data quality defects.
G) Cross-Team Collaboration & Stakeholder Partnership
- Work closely with Legal Operations, application owners, enterprise integration teams, data engineering, security, and vendors to coordinate integration requirements and releases.
- Translate business workflow needs into technical integration requirements and implementation plans.
- Coordinate dependencies and align to enterprise standards without introducing unnecessary coupling.
What We Value
The skills that will help you succeed in this role include:
- Strong integration engineering fundamentals: APIs, messaging/events, batch processing, transformations, and schema management.
- Data discipline: comfort with data modeling, master/reference data, lineage, and reconciliation techniques.
- Security-first execution: builds integrations with robust auth, auditability, encryption, and least-privilege access.
- Operational mindset: designs for reliability and supportability, not just “it works once.”
- Clear communication: can explain integration tradeoffs, coordinate cross-team work, and document clearly.
- Pragmatic problem solving: balances speed, risk, and maintainability while reducing manual work and defects.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
· 8+ years experience delivering enterprise integrations across SaaS and on-prem/cloud systems.
· Hands-on experience with several of the following:
- API design/consumption (REST, GraphQL), API gateways, authentication patterns (OAuth2/OIDC, SAML)
- Event/message-based systems (queues/streams), async processing, idempotency patterns
- ETL/ELT and data pipeline engineering, including file-based exchange (SFTP), schema evolution, and reconciliation
- Integration platforms or middleware (iPaaS/ESB), workflow automation, and job scheduling
· Strong experience with production operations: monitoring/alerting, incident management, and root cause analysis.
· Experience implementing secure integration practices: secrets management, key rotation, token handling, and audit logging.
· Ability to produce clear technical documentation: interface specs, sequence/data flow diagrams, runbooks.
7) Nice to Have (Domain & Industry Experience)
- Experience integrating contract management/CLM platforms and document repositories with enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with legal contract data concepts (metadata, obligations, clause taxonomy) and how they flow into reporting/analytics.
- Experience with MDM concepts (golden record, match/merge, survivorship rules) and reference data governance.
- Background in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, etc.) with strong audit, privacy, and records requirements.
- Experience supporting eDiscovery/records retention considerations in document and metadata flows.
