Who We Are Looking For
The Global Experience Design team is building a shared design system and front-end platform that provides reusable components, layouts, design tokens, theming, and UI engineering capabilities to support enterprise digital experiences across State Street.
We are seeking a Front End React UI Engineer to help build intuitive, scalable, and high-quality user experiences across the SSDS platform. This role will focus on developing modern front-end applications, reusable UI components, and shared design system capabilities that support enterprise products and front-end teams across the organization.

This role is important because it helps ensure shared components, styling patterns, accessibility practices, and front-end standards are implemented consistently and with high quality. The Front End React UI Engineer will contribute to a more unified user experience while helping product teams move faster and build more effectively on shared foundations.
What You Will Be Responsible For
As a Front End React UI Engineer, you will:
- Build and maintain responsive, accessible, and performant front-end applications, reusable UI components, and design system capabilities for SSDS.
- Translate product, UX, and business requirements into clean, maintainable, and reusable UI components and application features.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver workflow-driven user experiences in an iterative, product-led environment.
- Develop front-end integrations with APIs, shared services, and platform capabilities.
- Contribute to reusable design systems, front-end standards, and engineering best practices.
- Help implement agent-assisted and AI-enabled user experiences with a focus on clarity, trust, transparency, and usability.
- Write well-tested, secure, and maintainable code that meets enterprise quality and compliance expectations.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement of front-end architecture and development processes.
What We Value

- Experience building modern front-end applications in a professional engineering environment.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience building applications with React.
- Experience developing reusable UI components, application shells, and scalable client-side architecture.
- Experience working with Tailwind CSS, utility-first CSS frameworks, or similar front-end styling systems.
- Experience working with design systems, reusable component libraries, and token-driven UI development.
- Solid understanding of front-end fundamentals including state management, performance, accessibility, and responsive design.
- Experience building accessible user interfaces and applying accessibility best practices and standards.
- Experience consuming REST APIs and integrating with back-end services.
- Familiarity with modern front-end tooling such as Vite, Vitest, Storybook, or similar workflows.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and UX teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in building polished, user-centered interfaces.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving enterprise environment with evolving priorities and complex workflows.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in front-end engineering or full-stack development with a strong front-end focus.
- Demonstrated experience building production-grade applications with React.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working within a large, regulated enterprise environment is a plus.
- Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and accessibility standards such as WCAG is a plus.
- Familiarity with CSS variables, theming systems, and scalable styling patterns for enterprise applications is a plus.
- Experience with data-rich applications, workflow platforms, or enterprise SaaS products is a plus.
- Exposure to AI-enabled products, intelligent automation, or human-in-the-loop workflow applications is a plus.
Work Requirement
This role follows a hybrid work model aligned with team, business, and location requirements. Candidates should be comfortable working within established team working hours and supporting collaboration across business functions and time zones as needed.
Salary Range:
$80,000 - $140,000 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
