Who we are looking for
We are seeking a senior technology leader to head AWS Cloud Platform Engineering within State Street’s broader Cloud Platforms organization. As a core component of our Technology Platform Engineering and Operations (TPEO) function, this role will report directly to the Head of Cloud Platforms.
Our cloud platforms serve as the backbone for business innovation, enabling secure, scalable, and resilient digital capabilities across the firm. The successful candidate will partner closely with senior leadership to shape and execute strategic plans, while engineering and operating best-in-class AWS platforms that are secure, highly performant, and resilient in support of our business strategy.
This Managing Director will serve as a pillar leader within the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), translating enterprise strategy into AWS-specific platform capabilities. The role is accountable for ensuring consistent execution of platform standards, controls, and product offerings across the firm while driving a product-centric, platform-as-a-service mindset.

What you will be responsible for
1) AWS Platform Strategy Execution & Product Ownership
Execute the AWS platform strategy aligned to the enterprise cloud roadmap
Own and evolve the AWS platform roadmap and service catalog, ensuring alignment with multi-cloud standards
Single threaded ownership of AWS cloud platforms with a product mindset.
Drive adoption of platform services across application teams with clear business value
o Establish and track metrics across:
o Platform adoption
o Developer experience
o Reliability and performance
o Cost optimization
2) Governance & Compliance (Aligned to Enterprise Standards)
Own delivery and evolution of the AWS landing zone, consistent with enterprise guardrails and Cloud Security Alliance’s Cloud Control Matrix (4.0)
Proactively identifying and managing risks in the environments and driving hygiene in the environment through appropriate preventative and detective controls
Implement and enforce:
o Policy-as-code controls
o Logging, monitoring, and compliance baselines
o Multi-account governance and provisioningEnsure AWS platform remains audit-ready and aligned to global regulatory expectations
3) Platform Engineering & Developer Enablement

Build and operate AWS platform products enabling self-service consumption:
Compute, storage, networking, observability, and integration patterns

Deliver automation-first capabilities:
Infrastructure-as-Code
CI/CD enablement
Zero click-ops provisioning

Partner with application and product teams to:
Translate demand into standardized patterns
Improve developer productivity and reuse
4) Operational Excellence & Platform Reliability
Own AWS platform operational health and resilience

Lead:
Incident management and root cause elimination
SLO/SLA definition and adherence
Resilience and DR/BCP readiness
Ensure strong observability, telemetry, and operational transparency
5) Financial Stewardship & Vendor Management (FinOps Alignment)
Manage AWS platform cost model, consumption, and optimization

Partner Finance/FinOps on:
Budget alignment
Cost transparency and efficiency
Identify; build and nurture strategic partnerships with AWS and other third-party service providers to enhance platform capabilities and align to latest innovations in the market
6) Organization Leadership & Delivery Model

Lead a global high performing AWS platform organization including:
Platform engineering
SRE / operations
Architecture

Engineering excellence and automation-first culture
Clear accountability across engineering and operations
Alignment with enterprise governance and decision frameworks

Education & Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (CS, CE, CIS, IS, MIS, or engineering discipline) or equivalent work experience
15+ years overall IT industry experience with at least 5+ years in a role driving Cloud Strategy or Cloud platform engineering in a highly regulated financial services institution with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role
Extensive working knowledge with AWS Well versed with foundational constructs around Compute, Networking, Security and Storage
Experience with Entra as an IDP; Cloud Posture Management Tools like JupiterOne, Wiz; SIEM tools like Splunk.
Experience with IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD tooling viz Jenkins; Harness and other DevSecOps tooling.
Deep working knowledge of NIST 800-53, Cloud Security Alliance(CSA) Cloud control matrix (CCM 4.0), NIST CyberSecurity framework and knowledge of regulatory frameworks like GDPR, DORA etc
Proven execution experience using Agile methodologies.
Product Management experience will be an additional plus.
Salary Range:
$170,000 - $282,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
