Charles River Development is seeking an experienced and talented Senior Hosting Engineer with a strong background in Linux administration and automation to join our dynamic infrastructure hosting team. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our organization's infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our systems. What you will be responsible for

As a Senior Hosting Engineer you will

  • Design, deploy, and maintain Linux-based, Windows-based and Cloud Infrastructure, including servers, virtualization platforms, storage systems, and networking components.

  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Cloud Stack including Office365, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Virtualization.

  • Develop and implement automation solutions to streamline system provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and deployment processes using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify infrastructure requirements, design solutions, and implement best practices to meet business objectives.

  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system resources to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance.

  • Implement security measures and best practices to protect systems, data, and network infrastructure.

  • Conduct regular system backups, implement disaster recovery plans, and participate in incident response and resolution activities.

  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance system performance, automation, and operational efficiency.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering knowledge sharing and skill development.

  • Collaborate with vendors and support teams to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement of systems and processes.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or analytical discipline such as Computer Science, IT (Information Technology), MIS/CIS, Engineering, Financial Engineering, Science, Economics, Mathematics or Statistics

  • Extensive experience as a Systems Engineer in a Linux environment, managing large-scale infrastructure and enterprise-level systems.

  • Strong proficiency in Linux administration, including system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.).

  • Demonstrated expertise in automation using configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security best practices.

  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automation and task scheduling.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, OpenShift).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • A plus would be an Industry certification such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC).

  • Experience with monitoring tools

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to convey plans, issues, and risks concisely and coherently.

  • Ability to manage competing demands and frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.

Salary Range:

$100,000 - $160,000 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
