Description

Job Purpose:
As a member of the Educational Technology & Training Team and reporting to its director, the Senior Instructional Designer consults with faculty on course design, educational technology integration and the application of pedagogical best practices across all modes of instruction. The position’s primary responsibility will be to lead development of online courses for the JD Access Program within the WNE School of Law. The Senior Instructional Designer will help faculty to develop and manage effective learning environments and introduce appropriate technologies that add pedagogical value in support of specific curricular goals as defined by the Associate Dean of the Law School. The Senior Instructional Designer will also serve as a key liaison to other curricular support groups at the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides instructional design expertise to faculty in the design/redesign of courses
  • Collaborates with faculty in their development of curriculum and instructional material needs.
  • Serves as project manager for individual course design projects.
  • Advises faculty on best practices in pedagogical approaches to course site design, rubrics, and assessments.
  • Plans and designs online training programs for faculty who will be developing and teaching online courses.
  • Delivery of workshop training for faculty and administrators on use of Learning Management Systems and delivery of content in a hybrid content including synchronous and asynchronous modules.
  • Develop training materials and manuals.
  • Supervises the review of courses for accessibility and compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Assessment of new instructional technologies and needs.
  • Strategic planning related to instructional technology and learning design.
  • Engage in continuing professional education through the Office of Information Technology.

Qualifications

Required Education:
- A Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field is required.

Required Experience:
- A minimum of three years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing and developing online and blended learning courses.
- Experience working in higher education or a similar academic environment is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Universal Design for Learning Principals and application.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the application of adult learning theory in the development of online learning.
  • Excellent skills in using Learning Management Systems such (preferably Canvas)
  • Excellent skills in using Zoom and other synchronous online communication tools in an academic setting.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in the use of Quality Matters Applying the Rubric Certification (APPQMR), or equivalent i.e., OSCQR
  • Proven record of accomplishment working collaboratively within a diverse academic community with multiple constituencies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey technical information to others without technical expertise.
  • Ability to manage workload and meet established deadlines.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
